XCARET
Only five minutes from Playa del Carmen is Xcaret. Here you find a
beautiful and fun eco-archaeological park complete with an underground and open air river
which flow through narrow passes, a lagoon, cenotes and one of the most beautiful coves in
the Riviera Maya. There are also many archaeological sites. Five centuries ago Xcaret was
known as Pole, a port from which the Mayan sustained an intense marine commerce with other
cities of the Caribbean.

Aquarium:
The impressive aquarium at Xcaret is divided into six sections, each
corresponding to a different ecosystem.
Museum:
This cultural center houses 19 scale models of the most important pyramids
of the Mayan civilization.
Animals:
There are many place to observe animals in their natural habitat: the
Aviary, the Jaguar and Puma island, the Flamingo island, the Spider monkey island, the Bat
cave and the Butterfly pavilion.
Botanical Garden:
The botanical garden is both an educational and beautiful experience with
over 100 different types of trees as well as a mushroom and an orchid farm.
Mayan Village:
In this small village, where indigenous Maya, clothed in their traditional
colorful garments, receive visitors, people can explore thatch covered building and
traditional houses fills with handicrafts and hammocks.
Xcaret at night:
The night life in Xcaret, with traditional dances and songs performed by
torchlight, is famous throughout the Riviera Maya.
CALICA
Calica is a large international dock, used both as a stopover for cruise
ships and a departure point for the car-ferry to Cozumel. Both the national and
international terminals have taxi service, coffee shops, restaurants, telephones and
public restrooms.
PAAMUL
This small romantic bay, very close to the reef, is an ideal spot to spend
a quiet and relaxed time. Although known mainly as a camping site, there is a small hotel
and a few private homes here with basic services, such as a electricity, a restaurant and
dive shops.
Paamul is one of the beaches where turtles common to leave their eggs. This
usually happens during the warm summer nights.
